Gone are the days when professional courtesy was a standard now it has merely phased into a option. I see often undercutting in big business settings as well as small settings. It is now a commonly used practice especially in public relations. You want to take business from someone the first thing you go for is their creditability. You ruin their creditability you also ruin the change of recovery, but the question does become after you have done all that are people looking at you now because of the long hours you put in or the fact that you will sling mud to make it to the top. Gone are the days when business people networked with the true intensions of expanding upon their businesses and including others in that expansion, now at most events there is always 1-5 cases of “They don’t like me” or stand-offish gawkers who have heard various accounts of the truth from tainted sources. This is also a part of that ruin the creditability tactic. I don’t remember exactly when that was a professional way to carry on at a event but maybe I missed some sort of memo or maybe I am too focused on what I remember being professional to actually mean. When professional courtesy was a widely practiced art this was something that wasn’t so noticeable, it also was not as intense as it has become in recent years. With all markets being saturated with new workers and new businesses springing up it is becoming clear that no one wants to play fair. Let us know what professional courtesy & professionalism means to you no matter your industry and or field your feedback is greatly appreciated. In this new dawn of economic rebuild often people are forced to change their profession however it seems that with this change of profession and pursuit of the American dream a problem arises. That problem is over saturation in the job market in certain fields. Over saturation can be a problem and is often why certain fields have high competitive rates everyone one is doing it. The question is how can you make yourself stand out from the rest, education is always a good start. If you have working experience even better, but I have found that letting your business speak for itself and building a solid foundation is always the first step. Now when people look at Blue Orchid they may not see a flashy company, which is because even though we used modern tactics we do however stay close to home with the old ones because they worked. In the ages of technology that more often than not goes down without notice you can’t be without proper back up; the job still must get done. I have spent myself countless hours writing up press releases and them faxing, snail mailing, and emailing them just to ensure that they make it into the hands of the person they are meant for. Yes it is time consuming, mind numbing and tedious but it works. That is what my foundation was built on “doing what works.” I notice now everyone qualified or not has a PR at the end of their name, and while many don’t boast their credentials on Front Street I often see the green in their work ethic. We were all green at one time so it isn’t a knock on them and for some people it actually works. However again – Everyone is doing it. So that means you need a edge, a big one that sets you apart from the rest now you have your foundation what else can you add to give you a boost? Flexibility is the next point of addition. You often have to improvise on a moment’s notice when the market is saturated in order to give yourself the edge you need to stand out , however this does not mean go out and create some type of mockery situation just boost business. That in itself is foolish and doesn’t represent the company well in the long run if you’re looking for longevity. What I mean by flexibility is the ability to wear many hats that can reflect well on your company. That can be anything from simply helping out a charity, to doing work for free. It always looks good on your resume that they see you were able to make something from nothing. It is also good that you can reproduce the desired results but tailored to fit the client. I always look for ways to specially fit my client’s needs to ensure they get what they want from the company. It’s what keeps us recommended and keeps us in the game. So now you have your foundation laid and you have added flexibility to the game what is something else that can assist you in making your name pop into everyone’s minds. That next step would be work ethic. Time and time again I see the same thing, a person is a great worker, awesome in fact but they are hard to work with or they have started some drama for some odd reason and now the winds travel and people are starting to rather not do business with them. When you are labeled the best but people would rather risk doing business with something else because of your antics that have been recorded and documented that’s a problem. Me, personally I do my best to keep my work and my personal life separate and in the happenstance they do cross they will work well together. Even if it’s the worst possible scenario I go for protecting my company’s reputation first. I do my best to be courteous to everyone I meet and keep them in mind for projects that I might have brewing upon the horizon at a later date; Which leads to the next addition building a strong network. In any business you need a strong network to help you to build your companies legacy and reputation word of mouth still is the best tool that many people have to get their information out there, yes TV, radio, facebook, twitter, websites, text messages, emails, and everything else helps but if a person comes to you and recommends someone you have a tendency to want to check into that first before you do anything else. Now with that being said that means you have to act accordingly, massive over reactions, public breakdowns, and other things that happen do not reflect well at all. It presents you as unstable and possibly your company if they aren’t familiar with you at all.
